Welcome to the Hudson History Room at the Hudson Area Public Library, Hudson, Illinois

Image Welcome to the Hudson History Room on line database. Here you can see some of the historical items and artifacts that are available in the history room. Various objects, photographs, newspapers, clippings, and documents were stored in folders at the Hudson Volunteer Library begun by the Hudson Woman's Club in 1980. These materials found a new home when the Hudson Area Public Library was built in 1995. A room for Hudson's history was part of the library's master plan. The library worked closely with the Hudson History Club in further developing the collection. The history club's effort is responsible for 80% of the current collection. In 2005, a concentrated effort was begun to organize, preserve, catalog, and display the collection and promote it to the public.

The Hudson Area Public Library represents a good-faith effort to present accurate historical information about the Hudson area. The work in the history room represents the efforts of many people, each of whom has contributed his or her best. However, personal recollections, transcription of handwritten material, newspaper articles and even public records are all prone to human error, despite the best of intentions. We are making the collection available to the public as it is. The collection includes materials circa 1820 to the present.

The mission of the Hudson Area Public Library District's Hudson History Room is to preserve the history of Hudson Township. This history may take the form of written or physical artifacts representing people, businesses, homes, and farms.
